Neoma Geraldine Starnes, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2023, with family by her side at Mercy Hallmar after a long illness. A celebration of life will be planned for the family at a future date.
She was born May 17, 1933, to the late Charles and Beatrice (Kehoe) Orr and was raised by the late Robert and Virginia Swain in Cedar Rapids. She graduated with honors from Roosevelt High School in 1950. She was united in marriage in San Diego to her high school sweetheart, Duane Starnes, in June 1951.
Family was the center of her life, starting with her husband Duane, then raising her beloved five sons. She was a member of T.T.T. and a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She also spent time volunteering at hospitals. She was a passionate gardener, an excellent cook, a true dog lover, and artistic decorator who made every house a home. To those who knew her, she will be remembered for her Christmas cookies, amazing fruit roll, generosity, graciousness, kindness, love, and beautiful smile. She was one classy lady.
Everyone who knew Neoma has become a better person for having had her in their lives. She was truly an inspiration and will be deeply missed by all.
