Janice Jeanette (Brockmeyer) O’Loughlin, 92, of Independence, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, at Lexington Estate in Independence. Janice was born on Aug. 22, 1930, the fourth child of Benjamin Carl and Henrietta Mae (Gibbs) Brockmeyer. Janice was raised and educated in Strawberry Point and was a 1948 graduate of Strawberry Point High School. She went on to complete her courses in Nursing at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids and graduated in 1951. Janice then worked in hospitals in Denver, Colo., Sterling, Ill., Manchester and Independence. On Jan. 17, 1959, Janice was united in marriage to Daniel Edward O’Loughlin at St. Mary Catholic Church in Strawberry Point. Janice was a kind and giving person and thoroughly enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In later years, she spent time with her sisters going on drives through Eastern Iowa, never knowing where they might end up. She was wicked at Scrabble and rarely lost. Janice was lovingly referred to as “Janny Pie” by her beloved uncle, Leonard Gibbs. She also looked forward to going to Lenten Friday Fish Frys with her dear friends, Dale and Kathy Stupp.
