A Marion man was booked this week into the Linn County Jail on charges he used another man’s identity to get financing for a sport utility vehicle that cost nearly $37,000.
Dameon D. Harris, 31, was charged with first-degree theft, identity theft over $10,000, forgery and tampering with records.
According to criminal complaints, Harris financed and purchased a 2013 Land Rover for $36,777.93 on April 3 using the identity of another man. Harris presented the dealership — European Motors at 5405 Center Point Rd NE in Cedar Rapids — with a fake driver’s license and forged a signature in order to get financing for the car, records show.
An Illinois state trooper later found Harris with the car and determined his real identity.
Harris had his first appearance in court Tuesday and is being held on a $20,000 bail.
