Tre King and Robert Jones were on the Iowa State men’s basketball roster when the team reached the Sweet 16 two years ago before falling, 70-56, to Miami, but Jones is the only returner who actually played. Both will start Thursday night against Illinois.
Five hundred and ninety-two days unfolded between Tre King’s last basketball game for Eastern Kentucky and his first for Iowa State. Now just over two weeks separates the Cyclones’ sixth-year senior forward from his first and last full season in cardinal and gold — and to say he’s jazzed up about the prospect would be the epitome of an understatement.
Tre King, a 6-foot-7 senior from one of college basketball’s blue-blooded hot beds — Lexington, Ky. — is poised to make noise from the opening tip on Nov. 6. That’s both an exciting and inspiring prospect for Iowa State’s well-traveled and versatile big man.
