Clovis Wiseman Young, 94, died peacefully Friday morning, June 30, 2023, at his home surrounded by family. Clovis was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Northview, Mo., to Frank and Verda (Hill) Young and attended Crown School near Marshfield, Mo. Clovis married Geneva Stroud on May 22, 1952, at Harrison, Ark., and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. During his service to his country, he earned the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in ground combat and numerous other medals and citations. After the war the couple moved to Monticello, Iowa, in 1956. Clovis was employed with Shomont Farms and retired from Henderson Manufacturing in August of 2006 after 27 years of employment.
Clovis was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva; parents; and four siblings.
He is survived by his children, Dwight (Laurie) Young of Monticello, Victoria (Todd) Chappelle of Monticello, Keith (Donna) Young of West Branch and Timothy (Marcella) Young of Hooker, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at the Apostolic Assembly of Anamosa, with the Rev. Clayton George officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello, with military honors. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Apostolic Assembly.
