While the start of my story at Cedar Rapids Community School District was a little unconventional, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Being given the opportunity to serve as Interim Superintendent for the remainder of the school year has been a true blessing. It has allowed me to immerse myself in our city and schools, address our immediate needs, and connect with our outstanding students and staff before they left for the summer. Our team executed a districtwide listening tour, launched a teacher recruitment campaign, and connected with community leaders. Seeing our community's unwavering commitment to our children is empowering.
Attending high school graduation ceremonies was an unforgettable experience. Witnessing the culmination of our student's hard work and dedication was truly inspiring. It reinforced my commitment to supporting every learner in achieving their full potential, regardless of their post-graduation plans.
As I take on the role of superintendent on July 1, I am filled with hope and excitement for the positive changes and advancements that lie ahead for our district. Our leadership teams are working collaboratively to create a shared vision for the upcoming school year and an action plan to achieve it. We understand the significant opportunities that await us and will proceed earnestly to ensure that we maximize their potential. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and build a brighter future for our students.
Over the next few months, we will give specific attention to:
• Create a new strategic plan to guide the district's decisions, areas of focus, and budget allocation.
• Focus on our student's and staff's social-emotional and academic needs to achieve academic excellence that will set us apart at the local, state, and national levels.
• Devise a plan to invest in state-of-the-art opportunities and facilities for our staff, students, and community while identifying opportunities to develop our workforce.
Enhance communication strategies that are inclusive, transparent, and engaging.
• Celebrating CRCSD as a place of hope and where our students and staff thrive.
I am honored to be a part of Cedar Rapids Community School District and excited to embark on this new journey with you. Uplifting our students, staff, families, and the community, brings me so much joy. Please stay engaged with our schools and continue to provide feedback so we can all learn, grow, and move forward together. Here's to helping our students — and our district — succeed!
