LEGACY: The death of Allen Koepke, who beat pancreatic cancer 16 years ago, reminds of the Cedar Rapids composer/educator's huge contributions. His credits include inspiring thousands of student, church choir and community singers, building up Kirkwood Community College's music program, and founding Jefferson High's award-winning West Side Delegation. More than 70 of his compositions were published and much of his music was used in high school all-state contests and in colleges nationwide.

HELP FOR GRIEVING KIDS: Children dealing with the loss of a loved one got some special attention at Camp Wapsi recently. Camp Embracing Memories, run by St. Luke's Hospice and Palliative Care, helped 28 children going through similar situations. The camp was the first of its kind in Iowa.

BREAKTHROUGH: Casey Frederiksen, accused of killing 5-year-old Evelyn Miller of Floyd, must face legal prosecution to determine whether he's guilty. Nonetheless, Floyd residents and many Iowans no doubt celebrated last week's breakthrough in the 7-year-old case that had seemed to stymie investigators.
