Sofia Barbulescu, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, June 23, 2023. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a Trisagion service to begin at 7 p.m.
Sofia was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Romania, the daughter of Tudor and Maria (Leoveanu) Lembrau. She graduated from high school and went on to obtain a degree in teaching. Sofia was united in marriage to Constantin Barbulescu on April 1, 1961, in Bucharest, Romania. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church. Sofia was a force of nature and an incredibly sweet woman. Above all else, she loved and helped her family and will continue watching over them.
Survivors include her son, Ion and his wife, Mihaela Barbulescu of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Roxanna Ioana Barbulescu and Octavia Maria Barbulescu, both of Iowa City; special nieces, Tatiana Surugiu and Monica Jitea; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Constantin Barbulescu; and six siblings.
