RIDERS WED: Among the many interesting stories out of RAGBRAI's stopover in Cedar Rapids last Thursday was the wedding of Geana Allen and Carl Werve of The Villages, Fla. With family and friends on a conference call, the couple's nuptials were carried out at Cedar Hills Community Church. Later, during the Party on the Island in downtown Cedar Rapids, hundreds toasted the newlyweds, who started riding RAGBRAI in 2005. “Iowa rocks,” Mrs. Werve told a reporter.

SHE'S THE BOSS: Let's salute Emilea Hillman, an Independence woman with disabilities who, with assistance from her family, as well as education opportunities and state and federal programs that have grown out of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, proudly operates a profitable local coffee shop and is a taxpayer. Check out Em's Coffee Co.

BAND'S MISSION: Airwaves, a new Cedar Rapids band, emphasizes the power of family and community, and backs it up by collecting non-perishable food items at its concerts. The donations go to HACAP's food bank to help feed area residents in need.
