William “Bill” Junior Hedges, 80, of North Liberty, Iowa, passed away June 17, 2023, at Mercy Hospital.
Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and private burial will be held at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty.
William was born on May 24, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa, to William and Adeline (Turecek) Hedges. He married Virginia Crossett in Iowa City on Dec. 4, 1961. Bill worked for The University of Iowa as a painter for 40 years and retired in 2002.
He was the president of North Liberty Little League, and was a member of North Liberty City Council as well as the Ridgewood Cemetery Board.
He is survived by his father, William Charles Hedges of Colona, Ill.; wife, Virginia Hedges of North Liberty, Iowa; two sons, William Joseph (Kimberly) Hedges and John Michael Hedges, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandchildren, Madeline, Nicholas and Justin; eight siblings, Gayle (Marit) Panzenbeck of New York, Robert Monroe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, C T Monroe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Neila Barr of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Faith (Dave) Schliter of Amana, Iowa, Molly Monroe of Waterloo, Iowa, Rebecca (Dave) Zigler of Rock Island, Ill., and Belinda (Art) Olson of Rock Island, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother; brother, Claude “Spud”; infant sister, Katrinka; and sister-in-law, Cathy Monroe.
