Beth Markham
Beth Markham
Cedar Rapids
On Tuesday, June 13, Beth Markham, beloved wife of David and mother of Michael and Amanda, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones. To everyone who knew her she was “just Beth,” born in 1963 on Seymour Johnson Air Force base in Goldsboro, N.C. Beth possessed a passion for learning, and could often be found reading “The Cat Who” novels, watching classic films starring Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, and Danny Kaye, or listening to music by Elvis, Journey, AC/DC, Queen, and Kiss. Beth met her husband Dave when she was 17, and he 18; within months they married. A year later their son Michael was born; three years after, Amanda arrived. Beth instilled the value of curiosity in life in her children, surrounding them with endless books and boundless amounts of love. Beth's love extended beyond her family; within her life she loved numerous cats and dogs. Beth was preceded in passing by her father Royal Black, stepmother Linda Black, aunt Elsie Black, grandmother Gladys Black, and grandmother Letha Martens, her cats Gabby, Gus, and her childhood dog Lisa.
She is survived by her Husband David, son Michael and daughter Amanda, mother Judy Wink, uncle Loren Black, brother Bill Black, sister Barb Geinzer, and stepbrother Shaun Black. Private memorial services will be held by family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Iowa Brain Injury Alliance.
