John R. McGlynn was born on April 5, 1931, in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away peacefully on June 18, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. John ("Jack") married his beautiful bride, Donna Ratcliff, on Sept. 3, 1953, in Camp Chaffee, Ark., while serving in the Korean conflict.
Jack graduated from Drake University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and Bachelor of Laws in 1957.
In their almost 70 years of marriage, Jack and Donna had six children, Pat, Marcy, (Dave) Bader of Coon Rapids, Minn., Sheila Faust (Tom Tinsman) of Arvada, Colo., Mike, Brian (Kim) McGlynn of Marion, and Shayla Guinn of Tampa, Fla. Jack had 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Jack loved his exercise and would walk several miles each day. Jack loved his grandkids and had a special relationship with each of them. Jack was a claims adjuster with Hawkeye Security, and IMT, for more than 40 years in the Cedar Rapids area. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Shayla McGlynn; his sons, Pat and Mike; two sons-in-law, Mike Faust and Greer Guinn; and a grandson, Connor Guinn. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, for their love and kindness.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until service time. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
