Giacomo Tormene
Cedar Rapids
On Saturday, June 10, 2023, we said ‘Ciao’ one last time to Giacomo. Ciao is a simple word of bonds, conveying not only goodbye, but also hello and we’ll see you again.
Giacomo Tormene was born Dec. 5, 1957, in Padova, Italia, to Antonio Tormene and Maria Clotilde Mosconi.
He is survived by his spouse, Jan Marie Bradley; children, Matteo Tormene and Melissa Tormene; his sisters, Anna Maria Tormene (Paolo Pesiri) and Alma Patrizia Tormene (Francesco Zaccaria); as well as nieces, nephews and extended family across Italy and the United States.
Over a 38 year career, Giacomo worked with companies throughout the world, helping them recognize and engage the potential of each employee so that together they could define and exceed company strategic visions. Graduating in 1985 with a doctorate in agronomy, Giacomo joined Facco SpA. It was while in Japan opening a subsidiary for Facco that he met Jan. Jan was teaching English in Kyoto, and she happened to be arriving at the train station as he was leaving on a neighboring train. They crossed paths just long enough for him to charm her into agreeing to meet for a drink at a later time. Jan and Giacomo were married in 1991, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Giacomo’s professional career would continue over the next 15 years with Purina Italia, Favini SpA, and CALP SpA. In 2006, Jan and Giacomo moved with family from Meerssen, The Netherlands, to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Giacomo established and grew the international arm of Lil’ Drug Store. In 2015, Giacomo joined the Carma Labs family. With his contributions to leadership, grounded in his deep value of each colleague, of his team and of each business connection, Carma has continued to grow and prosper, with a strong internal culture and trusted international partners.
Whether at work or on the road, Giacomo breathed integrity, curiosity and passion. He saw rules not as barriers, but as suggestions to guide those with less ability or imagination. His determination and joy were evident in all he did, including in his ‘Italian’ driving. Giacomo's readiness to listen, willingness to mentor, and his unconditional love and acceptance are matters of the heart that challenge us to live each day fully and together.
Ti vogliamo bene.
