Shirley Marie Giblin, 70, of Marion, Iowa, died Thursday, June 15, 2023. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Shirley was born March 28, 1953, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Wilhelm) Bentley. She graduated from Prairie High School. Shirley was united in marriage to Dennis Giblin on June 6, 1975, in Cedar Rapids. She dedicated her life to raising her son. Shirley was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
Shirley loved to travel, visiting Disney World and the Wisconsin Dells. She enjoyed going to the movies and movie theater popcorn with extra butter. Shirley loved making Rice Krispie treats. She liked listening to oldies and classic music. Shirley loved Chick-Fil-A, always ordering her favorite: six grilled nuggets, 13 regular nuggets, large fry and soup that she would save for breakfast the next morning. She also loved Mr. Pibb.
Survivors include her son, Bryan Giblin; mother, Mary Bentley; siblings, Margie (Wes) Buresh, Dan (Pat) Bentley, Ron (Debbie) Bentley and Darrell (Shelli) Bentley; sisters-in-law, Deb (Chuck) Newton and Diane (Robert) Rutherford; brother-in-law, David (Laura) Giblin; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Giblin; father, Ted Bentley; and in-laws, Paul and Arlene Giblin.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Bickford of Marion.
