Betty Jane Steinfeldt was born on Oct. 25, 1937, in Eldora, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Mabel (Mitterer) Steinfeldt and graduated from Eldora High School with the class of 1955. On Aug. 19, 1956, she was united in marriage to Don “Big Daddy” Hilsabeck at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. In 1969, Don and Betty purchased their farm near Blairstown and raised their children there. Betty loved the farm and spent countless hours mowing and making improvements to the property. She also worked for over 27 years at Square D, and over 10 years as a cashier at the Blairstown Quick Stop, a job she truly loved, because of the daily interactions with her customers and co-workers. Betty was a faithful and active member at Grace Lutheran Church. Don passed away in 1989, and Betty later married Larry Callaway on July 17, 2017. The couple lived on Larry’s farm near Conrad until Betty’s most recent illness. Betty was known as a sweet and kind lady, whose greatest joy was time with her family, especially her grand and great-grand kids.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Callaway of Conrad; daughters, Kim (Brian) Mantz of Belle Plaine and Kris Salzmann of Vinton; four grandchildren, Jesse Hilsabeck of Polk City, Abbi (Jon) Garling, Brandi (Matt) Delveau, all of Norwalk; and Stevi (D.J. Stander) of Vinton; seven great-grandchildren, Eva, Zane, Andie, Olive, Charlie, Shiloh and Lincoln; brother, Mick Steinfeldt and sister, Pat (Marvin) Maronn, all of Eldora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Hilsabeck; son, K.C. Hilsabeck; son-in-law, Randy Salzmann, and two brothers, Chuck and Kenny Steinfeldt.
