David Kirk Dickson passed from mortality on June 6, 2023, in Marion, Iowa. He was born July 8, 1971, in Rupert, Idaho, to Clark Roger and Dorothy Gayle Durfee Dickson who survive him, as well as his sister, Dionne Bullock. He was joined in marriage to Clarissa Griner on April 3, 1998. To this eternal union was born Olivia Hope Dickson, David Paul Dickson, Faith Dickson and Seth Newell Dickson. He was also survived by many aunts, uncles, in-laws and cousins, as well as many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He graduated from Mannheim American High School in 1989. He embraced Boy Scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Germany Berlin Mission from 1990-92, where he became fluent in German. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1995, and worked as a surgical technician. He received his training at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Colorado, and also served in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Seoul, South Korea, Iraq and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was selected as “Soldier of the Year” in Fort Leonard Wood. He served his country for 20 years, retiring in 2015, at which time he began working at the Veteran’s Hospital in Iowa City. In addition to serving his country, Dave was devoted to cherishing his wife and children and lifting his fellow man. Dave saw the best in all people, could make a friend in any room, and his generous, giving spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 12, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4150 Blue Jay Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
