I would like to encourage all homeowners who are 65 years or older to take advantage of the law just recently passed by the Iowa Legislature that gives an additional property tax exemption. The exemption must be applied for by July 1 to qualify for the next round of property tax assessments. If you live in Cedar Rapids you must apply at the City Assessor's Office, 500 15th Ave. SW. If you live outside of Cedar Rapids then you would apply at the Linn County Assessor's Office, 935 Second St. SW (The Jean Oxley Building).
The Assessor's Office is on the second floor. I can report from my experience that the application process could not be easier! There were four of us who arrived at the Linn County office at the same time and instead of waiting in a line, four employees came to the counter to help each one of us. The form we filled out was short, and what we did have to fill out was highlighted. Thank you to the Linn County Assessor's Office for going the extra step in helping keep the process easy for seniors to accomplish. Don't delay, apply before July !
