NO CROP: A record number of unplanted acres is likely in several parts of Iowa, including our region, after the state endured its wettest spring in 141 years of record-keeping. Crop insurance will provide payments to farmers who have signed up for coverage but it won't necessarily cover all expenses or losses, depending on individual situations.

TRAFFIC CAMERA GAP: A Gazette report Friday found that traffic cameras used in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Muscatine and Sioux City likely won't trigger automatic citations for violations by unmarked government vehicles that aren't in computer data files. That's a flaw that will certainly add fuel to critics' opposition to the camera systems, which issue tickets to the owners of the violating vehicles, not necessarily the driver at the time. Meanwhile, the system in Cedar Rapids has proved to be especially effective at reducing accidents and fatalities on the S-curve portion of I-380 downtown.

GRAND FINALE IN REVERSE: At least 70 percent of the annual Coralville fireworks display was shot off in the first minute. A computer glitch in the high-tech program got the blame.
