Richard J. Divishek, 71, of Fairfax, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at his home. Celebration of Life services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids, with military rites. Friends may visit with the family after 9 a.m. the day of the service.
Richard Joseph was born June 23, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph Milo and Martha Lenora (Moses). He graduated from Prairie High School in 1969. Rich served his country in the U.S. Army from 1971-73 active and then served in the Reserves until 1977. He started a lifelong career with T&K Roofing in Ely during high school. Rich retired as a legendary foreman after 46 years of dedicated service there. Some of the projects he was in charge of were data centers, Marion Aquatic Center, Jordan Creek Mall, Quaker, General Mills, Alliant Powerhouse and roofs of all shapes and sizes too numerous to mention. Over the years, he mentored many apprentice roofers. Rich married Dana McVey in 2013 and they made their home in Fairfax. Rich loved playing cards, going to the bars, and spending time with the people he loved. There was a story everywhere he went and there was not a stranger to him. He was a proud member of the Fairfax American Legion Pekomy Post 572 for over 40 years.
Richard is survived by his wife, Dana; son, Johnathan; daughters, Shelly (Dave) Vanous and Jennifer Divishek; grandchildren, Drake, Luke and Shelby Vanous, and Olivia and Jayahn Howard; great-grandson, Alex Howard Cordova; brother, Jon (Donna) Divishek; and one niece; two nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother ,Robert.
