Man killed in Linn County crash identified

A man who was killed in a crash Tuesday morning in Linn County has been identified as David Dickson, 50, of Marion, by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

Dickson was the passenger in a 2008 Nissan Rogue that was driving north on North 10th Street when it was hit by a semi-truck traveling west on County Home Road. The Nissan was pushed into the yard of a vacant house at 2409 County Home Rd.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash just before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Dickson was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Nissan — Aubrey Griner, 18, of Adel — was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. James Schmitt, 74, of Earlville, was driving the semi and suffered a minor injury.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Marion Fire Department and Iowa Department of Public Safety Motor Vehicle Enforcement. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
