One killed in crash in Linn County on Tuesday morning

One person was killed Tuesday morning in a crash at the intersection of County Home Road and North 10th Street, just north of Marion, according to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office was called at 8:23 a.m. for a report of a serious crash. A semi-truck had been traveling west on County Home Road when it hit a 2008 Nissan Rogue that attempted to cross the intersection, heading north on North 10th Street. The Nissan was pushed into the yard of a vacant house at 2409 County Home Rd.

A passenger in the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries.

The names of those involved in the crash have not been released, pending notification of families.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Marion Fire Department and Iowa Department of Public Safety Motor Vehicle Enforcement. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
