Reynolds using taxpayer dollars for political gain again

Gov. Kim Reynolds is at it again. She was successful in convincing the Legislature to spend public dollars on private schools. Now she is attempting to bolster her party and her own political future on the national stage by sending Iowa National Guard troops to the Texas-Mexico border.

This move plays to a major trope of the MAGA base of her party, namely that hoards of foreigners are coming across the border illegally to harm Americans in a variety of ways and that the Biden administration is doing nothing to protect us. This is a conspiracy theory: in fact the border is quite secure and the national forces at the border are quite up to the job; and the Biden administration has been effective in quelling illegal crossings. There is no reason for states to call up the National Guard. Reynolds' action is pure political theater, and I, for one, am very tired of her using my taxpayer dollars to feather her political nest.
