MARSHALL, Texas — Coe keeps getting it done, topping Rowan 2-1 on Friday night at the Division III World Series at Taylor Field.
With the win, Coe (39-9) advances to the championship of Bracket 2 at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Win that, and the Kohawks advance to the best-of-3 series against the winner of Bracket 1 that begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Coe fell behind 1-0 early, giving up a first-inning run on an RBI single by Korie Hague.
The Kohawks struck back in the top of the third. Heather Boeckenstedt (Dyersville Beckman) walked and was brought home on an RBI single by Madi Parson (Camanche) to right center. Skyler Stookey (Solon) followed that with an RBI double to plate Parson.
Hannah Ausenhus (Central Springs) pitched the first five innings, giving up just three hits and two walks, striking out one. Ellie Thurow closed it out, tossing two no-hit frames.
The Profs (42-8) had a runner on second base with one out in the top of the seventh, but Thurow struck out Abigail Pawlowski and pinch-hitter Gianna LaMorges to end the threat, and the game.
