Gregory B. Thompson, 65, of Cedar Rapids passed away May 30, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospice Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Family only.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1958, in Carbondale, Ill., the son of Horace Francis Thompson and Sue Ellen Bargesser. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1976. Greg was married to Jody on Sept. 7, 2002, in Cedar Rapids. Greg worked at Farmstead Packing House for 13 years, Cryovac for 20 years and retired from Treehouse in 2018. Greg enjoyed bowling for many years and lots of family gatherings with the children and grandchildren. Greg was a huge Iowa Hawkeyes basketball fan, but probably best remembered by his grandchildren as the Monopoly champion.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jody; children, Brooke (Jeff) Armstrong of Cedar Rapids, Matt (Lina) Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Jessie Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Tim (Casey) McMahon of Walker, Stephanie McMahon (Dan Kramer) of Marion and Brian (Ashley) McMahon of Van Horne; two brothers, Doug (Shirley) Thompson of Cedar Rapids and Rod Thompson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Tyler, Serenity, Makayla, LeiAni, Marcus, Haley, Wyatt, Austin, Peyton, Lillian, Caden, Jaedynn, Ahron, Caleb, Evelynn, Gabe, Ellie, Lidia, Jessie and Rickey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Sue Ellen Thompson; twin brother and sister, Terry and Tina; his grandparents; nephew, Matthew; and grandson, Wade Gene.
Greg’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke’s ICU and St. Luke’s Hospice Center for the wonderful care.
