Shirley K. (Cook) Rotert, 77, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where a vigil service will begin at 4:15 p.m., followed by a rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with Father David O’Connor officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Shirley was born on Aug. 14, 1945, in Bell Gardens, Calif., the daughter of Leonard and Alice (Weiland) Cook. She was a 1963 graduate of Mingo High School in Mingo, Iowa. On Sept. 3, 1966, Shirley was united in marriage to Vernon Rotert in Colfax, Iowa. For 21 years, she owned and operated Soigneur Body Therapy in Marion, until her retirement in 2007. Shirley was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved to crochet. Shirley will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shirley is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Vernon; three daughters, Cheryl Nguyen, Sheila Brody and Sharon (Kevin) Westman; sisters, Thresia (Mike) Gustafson, Lenora (David) Kernen, Charlotte Culberson and Rene (Doran) Tesdall; grandchildren, Nicole Nguyen (Anthony) Ebel, Chantelle Nguyen (Nate) Phillips, Ryan Nguyen, Brittany Rotert, Anthony (Corteney (Miller)) Westman, Stacy Westman and Angela Westman; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rosemary Hulse; and nephew, David Gustafson.
