Houby Days: A grand tradition

Houby Days in the Czech Village, a grand tradition for 45 years, was a successful occasion! When this spring festival began, the Czech and Slovak Republics were joined as Czechoslovakia and were under Communist control. The Czech Village Association, Czech Heritage Foundation, and Czech Fine Arts Association were the originators of the event. (Later, the Czech Fine Arts Association became the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.)
Today, these same organizations join forces to promote these cultures and educate the public with stories of immigrants and immigration. With Houby Days this year, we celebrated with Czech and Slovak foods, especially houby/mushrooms, a parade, royalty, bands, a kolache eating contest, a cabbage roll competition, a fun run, and MORE! We've started already to plan next year's event.
Thanks to the many who attended and enjoyed our Village and NCSML.
