Bonnie Lucille Quaas, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died May 19, 2023. Bonnie will rest in peace next to Howard at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 26, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with a short graveside ceremony afterward.
Bonnie was born in Springville, Iowa, on Jan. 8, 1929, to Ruth (Pollock) and Clarence A. McGrew. She grew up on the family farm west of Springville and graduated from Springville High School in 1947. She worked at the Linn County REC for several years.
Bonnie married Howard George Quaas on Sept. 10, 1950. They had four children and raised them on their farm just east of Robins, Iowa, where Westfield Elementary School and Pinecrest Drive are now located. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and square-dancing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Clarence A. McGrew; her husband, Howard G. Quaas; her eldest son, Daniel H. Quaas; and her two brothers, William J. McGrew and David McGrew.
She is survived by three children, Carole J. Quaas of Council Bluffs; Stewart W. Quaas (Cynthia J. Gay) of Council Bluffs; and Thomas A. Quaas (Debbie Briggs) of Bellevue, Neb.; as well as grandchildren, Brandi Quaas (Daniel Hamilton) of Lakeland, Fla.; and Amanda Nembhard (Dietrich) of Atlanta, Ga.; Matthew Quaas and Lindsey Mescher (Nolan), both of Council Bluffs; Michael Quaas (Michaela Watson) of Bellevue, Neb.; and Kathrine Quaas of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and great-grandchildren, Kilah Kirby and Kaden Hamilton of Lakeland, Fla.; and Malcolm Nembhard of Atlanta, Ga.
