IOWA CITY — MidWestOne Financial Group has named a property in downtown Iowa City the Charles N. Funk Building to honor its former president and CEO.
The building, formerly known as OnePlace at 500 S. Clinton St., honors Funk, who retired in 2022 after 22 years of executive leadership with the group, the parent company of MidWestOne Bank.
Funk continues to serve on the company’s board of directors.
Funk, now 69, was seriously injured in a biking accident in the Pender Island of British Columbia on Aug. 8, 2022.
Charles Reeves succeeded Funk as president and CEO of MidWestOne in October 2022, after being president, CEO and director of Beach Bancorp Inc. in Florida. Before that, he was president and COO of Bank of the Cascades, located in Oregon, Idaho and Washington.
At the time of his appointment, Reeves said he’d known Funk for years.
“He prioritized integrity and community banking and led the organization from less than $500 million in assets and approximately 200 employees in 2000 to nearly $6.5 billion in assets and more than 800 employees today,” he said at the time.
MidWestOne has its headquarters in Iowa City and operates banking offices in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida and Colorado.
