Shelly Kay Wilder, 62, passed away due to health complications May 2, 2023, at Living Care West, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life will be held after the service at C.J.’s Sports Bar and Grill with family, friends and food.
Shelly was born to James D. Wilder and Kay Louise Riley on April 16, 1961, in Waterloo, Iowa. Shelly and her family moved to Cedar Rapids where she attended Washington High School and was friends with many. She also was a cheerleader on the Washington cheer team.
Shelly was preceded in death by her father, James Wilder; her brother, Scottie; and her grandparents, James and Nadine Riley.
She is survived by her mother, Kay; and siblings, Bobby Allen, Ricky, Dorinda, Derdre, Deniea and John Rodriguez.
While at Living Care West later in her life, Shelly had many friends and was considered a pillar in many of their and other residents’ lives.
During her free time, Shelly liked to go out and spend time shopping with her favorite sisters Dorinda and Derdre. She also loved to spend many hours talking on the phone with her mother. Shelly was also very creative and liked to use her hands, often making multiple pieces of artwork for others, and volunteering in programs at the living center, making sure to help others as much as she could.
Being such an important person to so many people, Shelly will be forever in our hearts.
