John Edward Siepman, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 14, 2023, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church by Rev. Trish Decker. Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
John is survived by his wife, Cathy; daughters, Amy (Chris) Strain, and Tammy Siepman; son, Dan (Jessi) Siepman; grandchildren, Jacob and Lauren Strain and Zach and Colton Siepman. all of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Siepman and James Siepman; and sister, Marcia Schulte-Elliott.
John was born on May 26, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the son of James “Leo” and Ruth Dee Siepman. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1970, and then attended Loras College. On Oct. 12, 1974, he married Cathy Severson in Cedar Rapids. John worked at Barlows/Randalls until they closed in 2001.
John enjoyed picking his grandchildren up from school, playing with his dog, and a good game of Solitaire on his phone. He also enjoyed taking care of his lawn, along with working in his deck garden, growing cucumbers and tomatoes and watching football and basketball, especially the Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes. John was always early and will be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor.
