Dvorak’s piece on today’s teen girls deserves close read

I’m really pleased The Gazette picked Petula Dvorak‘s piece (“Are you there, God? It’s today’s teen girls,” May 8) to headline its Monday opinion section. All newspapers should be so bold. Every parent, local school board member, and school superintendent should read and embrace Dvorak’s message. It’s that urgent.
Why?
Because the Iowa governor and her legislative majority have backed public education into a dark cave where books are verboten and discussion of real life is allowed only under the strictures of their good graces, which are as tight as a monk’s lips. That may be how to run a friary, but no way to run a modern teaching and learning enterprise. It is a way to murder democracy. Don’t sit on your hands, people. Share Dvorak‘s piece to everyone. Just do it. Save Margaret’s life.
