LaVonne Doris Larson born Sept. 4, 1936, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2023. She was the daughter of Evan E Shriver and Reeta V. (Warner) Shriver.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the First Lutheran Church, Manchester with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Pastor Tony Ede will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, has taken LaVonne and her family into their care. LaVonne was born between Persia and Neola, Iowa, on her grandpa Shrivers farm near Neola, Iowa, in an old cabin down in a valley.
She joined St. John Lutheran Church in Persia, graduated at Persia Public School in 1955. After graduation she went to Omaha Nebraska for work.
LaVonne married William “Bill” Jorgensen in 1955, they had one child Ken; the couple later divorced. In September of 1990 she married Robert “Cork” Larson, the couple made their home in Hopkinton, Iowa, until July of 2010 when they were forced to move to Manchester due to a flood.
LaVonne enjoyed being outside “fussing” with her flower gardens and doing quilting. She took great pleasure in making quilt tops for the nonprofit organization Sleep In Heavenly Peace, which provides handmade beds for children in the area.
LaVonne is survived by her son Ken (Deborah) Jorgensen; two stepdaughters, Reeta (Randy) Wall, Carolyn (Mike) Mayer; half-brother, Ron (Sharon) Petersen; nine grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren on the way, and several other relatives and friends.
She is preceded by her parents, her husband, Robert “Cork,” four sisters, Eileen Poore, Rose Heim, Faye Larson, Deloris Miller; and two infants, Dorine and Sharon.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
