Dale John Leary, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 7, 2023, at his home. At this time there will be no services. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation is serving the family.
Dale is survived by son, Derek (Lisa) Leary of Frisco, Texas; daughter, Ellen (Rick) Popenhagen of Atkins; and granddaughter, Julianne LaCour of The Colony, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn; his parents; and sister, Ann Jensen.
Dale was born on Nov. 12, 1941, in Jesup, son of Harry and Gladys Martin Leary. He graduated from Brandon High School and received a B.A. from Iowa State University, Ames. Dale was a veteran of the Army, serving from February 1967 to August 1972 during the Vietnam conflict. He was a CPA for CRST for many years. Dale never officially retired, as he was currently working for Furnace Pro, Olmstead Construction and the First Presbyterian Church, Marion.
Dale was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports, especially the Iowa State Cyclones and the Chicago Cubs. For over 20 years he was a scorekeeper for the Center Point-Urbana Stormin’ Pointers basketball teams. Above all, Dale loved spending time with his family.
