Ruthann (Mitts) Van Bogart, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Elgin, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023, at her home, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 8, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, at the funeral home. Burial: Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa.
Ruthann was born July 1, 1938, in Clayton County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Martha (Frederick) Mitts. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1956. On Nov. 7, 1964, Ruthann was united in marriage to Dennis Van Bogart. He passed away in 1981. She worked for Northwestern Bell/AT&T as a clerk and operator and retired in 1991. Ruthann was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing cards and coloring. She adored her family and loved the time she spent with them, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Damon (Sandra) Van Bogart and Shelly (Scott) Ryan; grandchildren, Cody (Jonathan) Van Bogart, Skyler (Morgan) Ryan, Parker Ryan, Mason Ryan and Payton Ryan; siblings, Norman (Karen) Mitts, John (Donaline) Mitts and Linda Gage; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Dot (Jim) Lagrange, Rhonda (Randy) Stallman, Butch (Heather) Van Bogart, Kent Van Bogart, Kim (Bart) Gingrich and Darcy (Pete) Oates.
Ruthann was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; parents, Walter and Martha; grandson, Hunter Van Bogart; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jim Gage, Randy Van Bogart and Rhea Van Bogart; and her mother and father-in-law, Mavis and Ervin “Bud” Van Bogart.
