Remember school board actions at next election

I, like many Cedar Rapids residents, was extremely disappointed by the Cedar Rapids School Board decision to demolish Harrison School. Buildings built before World War II were designed to last for generations; that is, unless those buildings are in Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Rapids seems to think a building over 30 years old must be demolished. Surely this building, if determined unsuitable as a school, could be repurposed. Additionally, why would any citizen volunteers want to step forward in the future? The school board totally disrespected the hard work and sacrifice of the volunteer focus group.
The board has clearly demonstrated that the long hours of research, and the personal and professional sacrifice of this, or any, focus group, will be overturned by decisions made at the eleventh hour behind closed doors. Between the lines they said, “Thank you for your service, but it was irrelevant.” My only hope is that the memory of this action will remain with voters for any bond issues and school board elections.
