Iowa City police investigating stabbing that left three people injured
Officials report the incident ‘appears to be isolated’

IOWA CITY — Three people were stabbed early Saturday morning when a large fight broke out near the intersection of Gilbert and Burlington streets in downtown Iowa City.
Iowa City police responded to reports of a fight in the 300 block of S. Gilbert Street at 1:55 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release. The release states that as police arrived, multiple people fled on foot.
Three adult men sustained stab wounds. They were transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and are expected to recover, the release states.
Police report that their initial investigation indicates the people involved in the fight knew each other and there was no threat to the general public.
The incident was reported early Saturday morning in Hawk Alerts issued by the University of Iowa. Initial alerts urged the public to “be aware of your surroundings and avoid the area.” It said police were searching for a subject.
A follow-up alert at 3:38 a.m. told the public to ”resume normal activity but remain vigilant.
The incident remains under active investigation, police said.
