Diane L. Evans, 67, of Marion, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2009, at her home after a courageous 20-year battle with cancer. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Mike Morgan of First United Methodist Church in Marion officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Diane Lenore Evans (Gellert), only child of Henry William Gellert and Lily Lenora Eicherly, was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Holstein and baptized in the First Methodist Church in Holstein. Diane graduated in 1960 from Holstein High School and in 1964 from the University of Iowa with a BBA in Accounting. Diane was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Phi Gamma Nu professional business sorority. Diane worked for Peoples/Norwest Bank for 17 years as a trust officer and was a member of American Business Women's Association. Diane married Clifford Rudolph Evans (her childhood crush) on Feb. 14, 1965, in Cedar Rapids. Her greatest joy was the birth of her two children, Tracy and Clint. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion. She was an avid Hawkeye fan, especially football. Diane was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Diane is survived by her husband, Cliff “Butch” of Marion; a daughter, Tracy Pendergast (Michael) and grandchildren Jack and Amanda of White Bear Lake, Minn.; a son, Clint Evans (Lori) and grandchildren Alexis, Addelyn and Henry of Urbandale. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Katheryn, who she considered her sister; brother-in-law Jack McArtor of Cedar Rapids; her niece, Jaclin Hernandez (Al), and her great-nieces, Tori and Laci Hernandez of Bradley, Ill.; her nephew, Mitchell McArtor of Cedar Rapids; cousin, Dennis Grothaus of Holstein; and many dear friends.
Diane devoted her life to being the best wife, mother, grandmother and sister-in-law, and she succeeded in every way. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Diane. Please visit to leave a memory, message or tribute for the Evans family.
