CEDAR RAPIDS — Individual district and team substate postseason assignments for boys’ tennis were released Thursday morning by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
The individual meets will be held on May 8 with the substate meets set for May 12 and May 17.
District champions and runners-up advance to the state tournament, set for May 23-24. The Class 2A tournament will be at the Hawkeye Recreation and Tennis Center in Iowa City with 1A meet set for Byrnes Park in Waterloo.
Each class will feature 16 qualifiers in both singles and doubles.
Iowa City Liberty and Cedar Rapids Prairie are host sites in Class 2A with Decorah among the eight 1A hosts.
With the new team postseason format in 2023, district tournaments will have no impact on substate assignments or team state tournament qualification. The first- and second-round duals will take place at one site on May 12. Substate finals will take place on May 17.
Seedings for substate brackets will be determined by coaches meetings, to be held this Friday or Saturday. All events played to that date may be considered in the coaches meetings. Substate pairings will be released next week.
Eight qualifiers in each class will advance to the 2023 IHSAA state team tournament, set for May 31-June 1. Class 2A matches will be held in Waukee with the 1A field playing at the HTRC in Iowa City.
