Born March 27, 1926, to Verne and John Dill in Washington County, Ruth attended country schools in Keokuk County, graduating from Keota High School in 1944. After attending Parsons College, Ruth taught school for two years in Dutch Creek Township.
Ruth married Ed Miller on Oct. 5, 1945, and after returning from Washington State where Ed was in the service, they began farming in the Ainsworth area. A farm wife for most of her life, Ruth raised chickens, cultivated a large garden, and was on call to help Ed whenever she was needed. Ruth was a pro at putting three meals on the table almost every day, with fried chicken and pies being some of her best dishes. A devoted wife and mother, she seemingly balanced all of these duties with the greatest of ease.
Ruth was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, and later Ainsworth Community Church. She was active in ACCW and whenever food was required, she pitched in. Ruth also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and the neighborhood Stop and Go Club.
In later years, she sold Avon and provided care to elderly folks in the area who wished to stay in their homes, giving her much joy in helping others. When taking care of the yard where she had lived since 1951 got to be too much, she moved to Washington in 2007.
She is survived by her four children, Donna Eiffert (husband Jerry), Mike Miller (partner Clint), Marty Miller (partner Jon) and Matt Miller( wife Maureen), four grandchildren, Todd Eiffert (wife Teresa), Lisa (Eiffert) Green (husband Matt), Brandon and Ashley Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew Eiffert, Colin Green (wife Baylea), and Kacey Green (partner Preston Rosenfield).
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, parents Verne and John Dill, sister Helen Gorsh and brother Don Dill.
We would like to thank the staff at Halcyon House and Washington County Hospice for the admirable care they provided to Mom. We cannot thank you enough.
