Lisa Elinor Wilkerson, 61, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Silver Oak in Marion, Iowa. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Lisa was born on Dec. 19, 1961, in Santa Maria, Calif., the daughter of Bruce and Marie (Grotpeter) Wilkerson. Because the family moved frequently, Lisa attended schools in Missouri, Texas, Washington, Indiana, and Iowa. She was academically gifted and participated in many sports, musical events, and science fairs throughout school.
Lisa’s life took an abrupt turn due to mental illness while in high school. Hospitalization, therapy, and her determination led to the completion of high school and to the achievement of bachelor and master degrees in statistics from the University of Iowa. When diagnosed with cancer, she once again faced the challenge with courage and determination; but, after a lengthy struggle, cancer took her life.
Lisa is survived and lovingly remembered by her mother; her brothers, David and Daniel; her sister, Debra; as well as many close relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father.
