Joan Hannah Schneiter, 89, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion. A private family service will be held at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion will be assisting family with arrangements.
Joan was born on May 23, 1933, in Langworthy, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Hannah (Zimmerman) Eilers. She is a 1951 graduate of Anamosa High School. On Oct. 10, 1954, Joan was united in marriage to John Schneiter, in Anamosa, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. She was a daycare owner. Joan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, the American Legion, VFW Auxiliaries and the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC). She loved her family, traveling, camping, volunteering and bingo. Joan will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Joan is survived by her husband of 68 years, John; children, Janice (Jeff) Mick of Mount Vernon, Iowa, Julie (Steve) Crowley of Marion, Jane Schneiter of Marion and David (Susan) Schneiter of Spearfish, S.D.; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Andrew Ballard) Mick, Jason (Jessica St. John) Mick, Eric (Carissa Brehm) Crowley, Kaitlyn (Todd) Schuring, Sarah (Ryan) Cannella and Anna Schneiter; great-grandchildren, Sullivan and Reid Ballard, and Cora and Nolan Schuring; two brothers, Galen Eilers of Monticello, Iowa, and Edward Eilers of Anamosa, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Hannah; and four brothers, Laverne, William, James and Robert Eilers.
Memorials in Joan’s name may be directed to Camp Courageous. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Linn Manor Care Center staff for all the love and excellent care they gave her during the last five years.
