Victor “Vic” Henry Breemeersch, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully and comfortably due to a short illness on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids under the care of Mercy Hospice. Celebration of Life: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Vic was born Oct. 31, 1939, in Duluth, Minn., the son of Sylvere and Mary (Elewalt) Breemeersch. He graduated from Protor High School in 1957. On June 8, 1968, Vic was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Johnson at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He earned his B.A. in music education/performance from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1961 and his master’s in music education from the University of Iowa in 1963. When moving to Iowa, Vic started teaching at LaSalle High School where he oversaw starting the band program from scratch and was there from 1962-74. Vic was at Linn-Mar Junior High and high school from 1972-2001. He enjoyed teaching general music and private lessons as well as being a band director. Vic was the director of Bands at Excelsior Intermediate School (fifth grade), but still did private lessons until 2017 for Linn-Mar and Prairie School Districts. His teaching motto: “Today’s effort is tomorrow’s success.”
Vic enjoyed watching movies, listening to classical and jazz music and going to the library. He loved to play the accordion and piano. His time with family was very special to him, especially when he was with his grandsons.
Survivors include his son, Jeffrey (Angela King) Breemeersch of Cedar Rapids; and grandsons, Chase and Myles.
Vic was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Pat, in 2017.
