Charlie A. Hampshire, 84, of Rogers, Ark., formerly of Center Junction, passed away on April 1, 2023, at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming. Burial will be at the Wyoming Cemetery.
Charlie Albert Hampshire was born on Oct. 11, 1938, in Princeton, Mo., to Clyde and Nadene (Elliott) Hampshire. On Nov. 11, 1955, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia Seeman in Cedar Rapids. For many years he was a truck driver for Swift, owned and operated Hampshires Corner Inn in Onslow, and worked for Alside when he retired in 2000. In his earlier years he enjoyed riding horses bareback, especially his favorite horse Cricket. He admired and looked up to his Uncle Shibb. Charlie was a man of few words but everyone who knew him knew he had a great love for his family. He was an avid coon hunter, enjoyed hunting with his cousin Gawaine Elliot and son Chip. He trained and turned out several champion coon dogs, including his favorite, High Ridge Lou, a Trials, Tree, and Show All Nationals Champion . He was sensible man who always had "an old indian trick" up his sleeve to get a problem solved.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Colleen Ahrendsen of Center Junction and Darrin (Blanca) Hampshire of Rogers, Ark.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sherry Swanton of Trenton, Mo.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; twin sons, Kevin and Calvin; two brothers, Calvin and Alvin; a son, James Dean; and one grandson, Christopher James.
