Survivors include a daughter, Kim Werning of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a sister, June Boss of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ray; two sisters, Alfreda and Lucile; along with two brothers, Marvin and Richard.
Doris was born July 8, 1924, to Alfred and Helen Boss in Sand Springs, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Coggon, Iowa, and graduated from Coggon High School. Doris attended Iowa State Teachers College and Coe College during the summers while teaching in the rural schools of Linn County for six years. Then she moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for CIT Financial Corporation doing bookwork for 12 years. She then married, had one daughter, and became a homemaker until her husband’s death in 1985. After her husband’s death she worked part-time in a doctor’s office and part-time at Kingston Hill, a retirement home until her retirement in 1997.
Doris enjoyed walking, photography, traveling, genealogy, and doing volunteer work at Aegon for her church. Doris attended Cedar Hills Community Church for many years. And Doris always looked forward to spending time with her daughter and extended family. She was a wonderful mom and she will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank-you to the staff and residents at Summit Pointe Senior Living Community and St. Croix Hospice. The love and care you lavished on Doris was greatly appreciated.
