Richard William “Dick” Pattschull, 84, of Iowa City, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Bickford Senior Living. A Gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Iowa State University Department of Architecture or CommUnity Crisis Services.
Richard was born on March 18, 1939, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of William and Jessie (Adams) Pattschull. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1957, and Iowa State University in 1964 with a degree in architecture. Richard was united in marriage to Joyce (Jo) Power and moved to Iowa City in 1964 to join the architectural firm of Wehner and Henry. The firm then became Wehner, Nowysz, Pattschull, and lastly Wehner, Pattschull and Pfiffner, until his retirement in 2004. He served on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, Iowa Architectural Examining Board and the Alumni Advisory Board for Iowa State University College of Design.
Dick was an avid flyer; He built and flew a Rutan experimental aircraft and restored a 1945 Piper Cub. Over his years in Iowa City he actively participated in archery, golf, tennis, hunting, and fresh water and saltwater fishing.
Dick is survived by his wife, Joyce; two sons, Jeffrey of Seattle, Wash., and Bryan (David Cordes) of Rock Island, Ill.; and sister, Barbara Reiff of Ankeny, Iowa.
