Ronald J. Rayman, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Brosh Chapel. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted.
Ronald was born May 31, 1933, in Elberon, the son of Adolph and Mabel (Turbett) Rayman. He graduated from Dysart High School. Ron served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1954-55. Ron was united in marriage to Janis Lee Bata on Sept. 6, 1958, in Elberon. He worked at Cedar Rapids Auto Parts, International Harvester, Payless Cashways and later retired from Menards. He enjoyed camping, boating, working security at the Ice Arena, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, going on family vacations and, most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Eagles and VFW Post 788.
Ron is survived by his wife, Janis; daughter, Jody (Cecil) Anderson; three grandchildren, Kristian (Jessica) Anderson, Lukas Anderson (Precious Robison) and Bailee Anderson; three great-grandchildren, Harry, Freya and Brekyn; two brothers, Wayne Rayman (Marilyn Carpenter) and Larry (Joynell) Raymon; brother-in-law, Leroy (Maxine) Bata; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Joe and Ella Bata; sister-in-law, Joanne Rayman; and his brother-in-law, Leland (Greta) Bata.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Hospice of Mercy and Hall-Perrine Cancer Center for their loving care of Ron.
