Robert Joseph Mootz, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday.
He was born Nov. 8, 1929, in Bellevue, Iowa, and married Eva Frances Downs (deceased) Nov. 28, 1953, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mr. Mootz was employed by the United States Postal Service for 37 years, ending his career as Director of City Operations prior to retirement in 1992. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus. A United States Air Force veteran of the Korean war, he entered at Cedar Rapids in 1948, achieving the rank of Staff Sargant and honorably discharged in 1951 at Enid, Okla. He then served in the Air Force Reserves.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Boretsky of Flower Mound, Texas, Connie Woodyard of Tulsa, Okla., and Patricia (Michael) Rozek of Arvada, Colo.; five grandchildren, Barbara Boretsky, AJ (Michelle) Woodyard, Lauren Woodyard, Conley Rozek and Joseph Rozek; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Kristin Novak.
Services: St. Pius X Catholic Church by Fr. Jon Seda, Friday, March 31. Visitation at noon with Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Contributions in Mr. Mootz’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
