Carol Suzanne Bunn was born on April 17, 1934, at Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of George W. and Wilma L. (Lamb) Bunn Sr. She graduated from West High School in Waterloo.
Carol married Robert L. (Bob) Dunnington on June 14, 1956, at Waterloo. He died Oct. 7, 1981. She married Dr. Frank J. Piper on Nov. 28, 1987, at Oelwein; he died October 2, 1993.
Carol was a long-time and active member of Christ United Presbyterian Church in Oelwein. She had volunteered at Arlington Place and with R.S.V.P., working with children as they learned to read, which she loved. She was also a member of P.E.O., the MacDowell Club, the Red Hat Society, and was an avid bowler.
Carol is survived by her four children: Laura Behrens of Cedar Rapids, Vicki (Michael) Smith of Sioux City, Iowa, Tracy (Mark) Rivers of Maple Grove, Minn., and Bobbi (Forrest) Cravens of Hutchinson, Minn.; two stepchildren, Janet (Thomas) Knott of Marion and Stephen (Ann) Piper of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; brothers, Arthur L. Bunn and George W. Bunn Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Jaqueline Bunn and Isabell Bunn; and a son-in-law, William Behrens.
Carol lived up to her name, which is French for “joyful song.” She brought joy, love and laughter to those who knew her. She was a patient and loving mother, a doting grandmother and great-grandmother, a devoted friend, and a beautiful spirit. We will all miss her.
