Mary E. Karlan, 93, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Keystone Cedars in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
Mary Ellen Karlan was born on Nov. 11, 1929, to Leonard and Margaret Hovell Reindl in Mason City. Mary graduated from Manly High School in 1947. She later attended Mount Mercy in Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage to Ralph Karlan on Oct. 16, 1948, in Manly. Mary was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and bowling.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Juanita (Lynn) Richman of Iowa City, Kevin (Diane) Karlan of Lake Ozark, Mo., Dennis (Julie) Karlan of Cedar Rapids and Steven (Jodi) Karlan of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Nadine; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; son, Charles Karlan; parents; her twin brother, Charles.
