Richard L. Bascom, Sr., 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023. A celebration of life will be held at later date. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include children, Gary (Kimberly), Teri, Rick, Vicki (Gary), Becky (Mark), Debbie, Jeff (Dawn), Shawn, and Dixie (Chad); stepdaughter, Darcie, stepson, Willy; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene, sister, Ruth; special friend, Jean Leaf, neighbors and friends, Joel, Laurie, Rory Sr., Rory Jr.; friend, Bob; and his friends at Olive Tree, Tanager Place, American Skillet, and Donutland.
Richard was born on May 5, 1940, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of John Franklin and Mildred Davis. He worked at Tanager Place for 27 years and stayed in contact with them after retirement and attended many of their events. Richard loved traveling and camping back in the day. He liked to watch the classic cars cruise First Avenue and really enjoyed having coffee with his friends at Olive Tree and strawberry sundaes at Dairy Queen with his daughter, Cindy. Richard was always on the go, cracking jokes, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy; wife, Shirley; sister, Sarah; and brothers, Bob, Fred, Harold, and Kenneth.
Memorials may be directed in his memory to Tanager Place.
The family extends a sincere thank-you to the Gentiva Hospice for their care and compassion.
